Meetings coming to Jacksonville

2012 AMATYC

On behalf of Visit Jacksonville, with the City of Jacksonville, I would like to welcome American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC). We hope your meeting runs smoothly and that you are able to make the most of your time in Jacksonville.

Stretches of stunning beaches and waterways, a burgeoning downtown and experiences outside of the boardroom that inspire your mind, body and inner adventurer lure you to immerse yourself in Jacksonville, Florida. In fact, there’s more than 840 square miles of immersion in the “River City by the Sea,” providing endless opportunities for exploration whether you want to discover the undiscovered, ignite romance, reconnect or be inspired by the city’s cultural offerings, world-class shopping, unique cuisine creations or vivid sunrises.

Much like the community itself, Jacksonville’s restaurant and foodie scene is an eclectic hybrid of inspired casual elegance and classic southern comfort, infused with the flavor of the coast and a dash of international flair. From local eateries and fish camps to five-diamond cuisine and urban hotspots, there is a restaurant for every taste and budget. The city’s restaurateurs and culinary masters are being recognized by some of the biggest names in the dining world, including James Beard, adding to this attribution.

Along the stunning St. Johns riverfront, the arts district arouses ingenuity with world-class cultural offerings. Local artists have been immersing themselves in Jacksonville steadily over the last several years as the city is becoming well-known among the independent and up-and-coming creative class with an explosion of locally owned and operated art galleries and undiscovered musical acts in off-the-beaten-path bars and hip clubs.

For those who love golf, Northeast Florida’s moderate temperature year round and over 70 golf courses offer many opportunities to hit the links. The region is home to the PGA TOUR Headquarters, the World Golf Hall of Fame which celebrates the history and sport with interactive displays, memorabilia and trophies on display and THE PLAYERS Championship and the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass with its infamous island green of the 17th hole.

Golf isn’t the only sports action in town. Sporting events reign supreme in Jacksonville, from the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars and collegiate football showdowns to Double-A Jacksonville Suns and local college sports teams. Or look to a quieter, hands-on outdoor experience with abundant fishing, kayaking, boating, surfing and hiking. With over 111,000 acres of parks, an array of activities await while exploring the country’s largest urban park system.

So, dive in and immerse yourself in Jacksonville!
