Visit Jacksonville. Where Florida Begins.

Arts & Culture Itinerary

A full-day and evening of activities

For a relaxing getaway, experience the rich arts and culture community in Jacksonville.  Start off your day with a stop at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens.   As the second largest art museum in Florida, the museum has received international recognition for their Old Master and American paintings, beautiful formal gardens and renowned collection of Meissen porcelain, as well as their art education center.

As you depart the museum, head down the tree-lined Riverside Avenue towards Avondale, Riverside's sister neighborhood.  This historic district houses some of the most beautifully designed homes in the city.

Along St. Johns Avenue you will find the Shops at Avondale, a diverse collection of local restaurants, boutiques and retailers offering a wide array of goods for visitors and residents alike.  Be sure to stop by the R. Roberts Art Gallery.  The gallery is known for its wide collection of fine art - with a reputation of excellence.

For lunch, you won't have to walk far.  Popular eateries in the Avondale neighborhood include The Brick and Biscotti's, both serving contemporary American fare.

Next, take a quick ride over to Downtown to experience the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville.  MOCA Jacksonville is one of the largest modern and contemporary art museum in the Southeast.  The permanent collection consists of more than 700 works in a wide range of media, representing prominent national and international artists of the 20th and 21st century.

After the museum, head down Laura Street to the Northbank Riverwalk.  Stroll along the riverfront and visit The Jacksonville Landing on the banks of the St. Johns River to wander through more than 65 shops and find the perfect souvenir for your trip.  The Landing is also home to Art of Hope, an inspirational art gallery owned by Tony Ryals who paints using his mouth due to a disability which locks up his joints.

For dinner, try the cozy, upscale bistro - Juliette's Bistro, located in the AAA Four-Diamond Omni Jacksonville Hotel, two blocks away from The Landing, featuring fresh seafood, chicken, pasta dishes and more.  With a full bar and extensive wine list, Juliette's is a great place to wind down after a busy day.

For the evening, relax to the sounds of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra for world-class entertainment.  As night falls, enjoy a spectacular view of the Jacksonville skyline, brightly lit by the three centerpiece bridges of the Downtown riverfront.
