Visit Jacksonville. Where Florida Begins.

St. Augustine: Our Picturesque Past

A full-day

Follow Coastal Highway A1A, US Highway 1 or I-95 south to the oldest city in the United States, St. Augustine, Florida.

The visit begins at the Visitors Information Center for a brief orientation to the old city. Ride the St. Augustine Sightseeing Trains to get a narrated overview of the area. Also, St. Augustine Scenic Cruises offers a 75-minute tour of Matanzas Bay and a view of waterfront landmarks.

Allow time to explore the Castillo de San Marcos, which is the last of nine successive fort structures still standing since the city was founded in 1565. Stroll through the restored Spanish Quarter on Historic St. George Street where interesting shops and eateries abound.

Following lunch, the tour resumes with a visit to the Old Florida Museum, Whetstone Chocolate Factory, the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum, St. Augustine Alligator Farm, and Ripley's Believe It or Not!

Take a "Ghostly Walking Tour" through the streets of St. Augustine. If this sounds a bit too scary, the day might conclude with a shopping side trip to the St. Augustine Outlet Mall. Don't miss the World Golf Hall of Fame which offers interactive exhibits about the game of golf; past, present and future.
