JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 17, 2011) – Mya Surrency has been promoted from senior director of marketing to vice president, tourism marketing & development by Visit Jacksonville. The move is part of a company-wide reorganization for the city’s tourism arm orchestrated by President & CEO Daniel O’Byrne.

In Surrency’s new role, she will further develop the destination’s product offerings and drive visitor demand through strengthened tourism marketing strategies utilizing Visit Jacksonville’s branding campaign, Immerse Yourself Here. She will also oversee the increased integration of the organization’s marketing and public relations functions into one unified department.

Through the reorganization, Visit Jacksonville will consolidate its efforts on two distinct categories: tourism marketing, focusing on the individual, leisure visitor market, and destination sales, focusing on group meetings and conventions. The two disciplines will continue to streamline their overall destination focus.

“Building upon the city’s incredible natural assets and hospitality and capitalizing on the strong market share that Visit Jacksonville already has in place, Mya will be able to sharpen the image and perception of Jacksonville as a great destination,” said O’Byrne.

Prior to O’Byrne’s arrival in November 2010, Surrency had served as the Visit Jacksonville interim president & CEO since March.

“Mya has shown true leadership and vision during the eight months she served as interim president and her steadfastness to the Jacksonville tourism industry’s interests has kept the organization afloat during a period of great economic uncertainty,” said Visit Jacksonville Chairman Dan King. “We appreciate her efforts and are eager to see what is in store for our destination in the future.”

Surrency joined Visit Jacksonville in 2007 as director of product development and research. Prior to her tenure, she served as the deputy director for the St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra & the Beaches Visitors and Convention Bureau for five years.
