Sometimes finding a place where the kids can eat can cause parents nightmares.
You find a spot with a kids menu, but the adult choices are not so hot. Or you see a fabulous menu in a spot that’s just a bit too hoity-toity to accommodate your grilled cheese needs. Fortunately Jacksonville is full of great spots to make the whole family happy. Here are our top picks for kid (and parent) friendly restaurants:
Take a walk on the wild side and do lunch at Clark’s Fish Camp. You can chow down on classic fish camp fare (as well as some more exotic options) while surrounded by lions, tigers and bears. No need to worry about becoming lunch yourselves though, Clark’s displays the largest private taxidermy collection in America as well as a live alligator tank.
What’s more kid friendly than a classic hamburger? With locations in St. Johns Town Center, Atlantic Beach, San Marco and Riverside, this local burger joint is a great place for a quick bite. These high-quality burgers are made from 100% all-natural angus beef ground fresh daily, but don’t come with a high-quality price tag. Also on the menu are their mouth-watering, handspun milkshakes that come in varieties like Marshmallow Brulee and Bananas Foster.
Maple Street Biscuit Company is one of Jacksonville’s most popular breakfast spots, and with good reason. They have locations in San Marco, Jacksonville Beach, Murray Hill and Julington Creek. Each location has their flaky, fresh-made biscuits turned into various breakfast sandwiches featuring southern favorites like juicy all natural fried chicken breast, sausage gravy, collard greens and more. Their most popular biscuit is the five and dime: fried chicken, pecan wood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, sausage gravy and a fried egg. They like to have fun too! When taking your order, instead of taking your name they ask fun questions like “What was your favorite cartoon growing up?”
When it comes to kids, pizza is a surefire crowd pleaser. This funky, local pizza shop has plenty of options to keep both the kids and adults happy, with pizza by the slice or the whole and even a gluten free pizza crust is available. This hip spot will have you looking like the coolest parents in town!
This colorful, local taco spot is a big hit with locals and visitors alike. The big crowds provide some noise coverage if you have a particularly rowdy group of youngsters. They have a kids menu featuring simple favorites like chicken or beef tacos, chicken or cheese quesadillas and even fish sticks. That, along with the bright Mexican decorations inside are sure to keep the little ones happy while you enjoy popular dishes from the “big kids” menu like the Bangin’ Shrimp or Baja Fish tacos.
Treat the family to the best ice cream in the state! This local ice cream stand is a Jacksonville institution, opened in 1948 and serving up hand-dipped soft serve, milk shakes and a killer banana split.
