Things to do on a Rainy Day in Jax

Sometimes it’s not always sunny in the sunshine state

Although Florida is “The Sunshine State,” that nickname is not always accurate as the state infamous for afternoon showers. Even though Jacksonville averages 270 days of sunshine a year, when it does rain, we’ve got you covered with shopping, visiting local museums, or collecting stamps on your Jax Ale Trail passport to occupy you on a gloomy day.

Museums and Art Galleries: Jax has over a dozen museums that can fill your time on a wet day. From arts to history to science and everything in between, there is something for you and your whole family to enjoy. Jacksonville also many local art galleries that you can purchase art or explore in many of its historic neighborhoods. From contemporary, modern, and everything in between, there is bound to be a gallery that suites your taste. You can view a complete list of museums here and check out some neighborhood art galleries here.

Jax Ale Trail: If you’re ready for an #onlyinjax adventure, look no further than the Jax Ale Trail. Jacksonville's local craft beer scene is thriving and continues to expand with more than 20 local craft breweries around town. Get your #JaxAleTrail brewery passport at your first brewery stop. Then, visit the breweries along the trail on the passport, grab a drink and ask to have your passport stamped. When you’re done, submit your completed passport to Visit Jacksonville to receive Ale Trail swag.

Escape Rooms: Rainy days can be dull, especially if you’re stuck inside. One way to engage your mind is to visit an escape room with your friends and family to work against the clock, discover clues and solve puzzles to escape locked rooms. There are many different escape rooms in Jax, including Breakout Games, The Escape Game, One Way Out and Escape Room. Please make this more concise.

Autobahn Indoor Speedway & Events: Are you looking for something exhilarating to occupy your time during a rainy day? Speed-lovers will be thrilled to visit Autobahn Indoor Speedway. The European-style indoor go-karting center features a massive electric indoor racing facility that is fully air-conditioned for perfect racing conditions every day. Race against your friends and family on a Grand Prix-style track with electric Italian pro-style go-karts reaching speeds up to 50 MPH. The Jacksonville location also features axe throwing, an arcade, and a restaurant.

Topgolf: Whether you are a golf pro or an amateur, you are bound to have a great time at Topgolf. Enjoy hitting balls off three-stories worth of climate-controlled hitting bays, aim at the giant outfield targets, and Topgolf’s high-tech balls will score themselves. You can use complimentary clubs or bring your own to compete against your family and friends, or swing at your leisure. Topgolf is partially outdoors, but the hitting bays are covered and should keep you dry.

Shopping: Some days there’s nothing quite like retail therapy. Jacksonville has a variety of shopping malls, trendy boutiques, and local markets in each of its historic neighborhoods. Visit the San Marco, Avondale or the Beaches for vogue upscale boutiques. Look for vintage finds in Five Points or visit one of our local makers markets for handmade arts or crafts and fresh produce. You can also stop by the outdoor shopping hub, the St. Johns Town Center (you may want to bring an umbrella) for all the latest fashions, or the Avenues Mall.

Arcades: Jacksonville has a plethora of arcades that you can visit. Play with the whole family at Dave and Busters, Video Game Rescue, or Main Event. Grab a drink and play at Keg and Coin, Rec Room or Leaderboard.

Live Theater: Did you know that Jacksonville was America’s first Hollywood? This fact is extremely evident when it comes to Jacksonville’s live theater scene. There is nothing quite like seeing a live performance on a stormy day, and whether you are looking to see the latest Broadway plays, local plays, or experience a dinner and show, Jax is bound to have something for you. Live performance venues include Theater Jax, Players by the Sea, The 5 and Dime Theater Company, FSCJ Artist Series, along with many others.

Stormy days are only dull if you make it that way. Take advantage of some of Jacksonville’s exciting experiences and have the best rainy day ever.
