January 29, 2025 7:00 PM –9:00 PM
From rock ‘n’ roll and nature documentaries to the dark streets of Film noir, WJCT Public Media and the Jacksonville Music Experience is proud to present our first series for Film at WJCT Studios. January's film series kicks off with a trio of music films, Elvis: That's The Way It Is, ENO, and Summer of Soul (...Or When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised).
Summer of Soul is part music film and part historical record created around an epic event, the 6-week Harlem Cultural Festival, celebrating Black history, culture, and fashion. Over the course of six weeks in the summer of 1969, just 100 miles south of Woodstock, The Harlem Cultural Festival was filmed in Mount Morris Park (now Marcus Garvey Park). The footage was never seen and largely forgotten—until now.
