New Exhibit at The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens

There is a new exhibit to see at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens. The Somnyama Ngoyama, Hail the Dark Lioness, is open to the public now through June 20, 2021.

Background on Artist:

Zanele Muholi is a visual activist and photographer based in Johannesburg. Their exhibit, Somnyama Ngonyama which translates to Hail the Dark Lioness, is at The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens and is the final venue for this international touring exhibit. The more than 80 self-portrait series portray social justice, human rights and the representations of the Black body through the visual archive while challenging the viewers perceptions. The photographs were taken between 2012-2019 in cities across Europe, North America, Asia and Africa.
