After learning how to surf at the age of 35 in Costa Rica, she decided to combine her personal passion for the ocean with her professional experience to increase cultural and gender diversity in the surf industry through representation in media, retail offerings and in the water. In 2018, GiGi officially launched a nonprofit organization called SurfearNEGRA with a singular goal to #diversifythelineup by democratizing the sport to make surfing accessible to any kid, anywhere. 1. What do you love most about Jacksonville?
I'm most in love with the possibility of Jacksonville. It's a massive city and is positioned to grow exponentially in both population and opportunity.
2. What is one thing you tell a visitor that they must see/do when in Jax?
I always tell visitors they MUST visit one of the many beaches in Jacksonville followed by any meal involving Mayport shrimp!
3. Where is your favorite local spot to eat?
I'm a huge fan of Hangar Bay in Mayport. Who knew fried chicken and gumbo inspired Japanese ramen could taste so good!
