Clanzel T. Brown Park
Clanzel T. Brown Park honors the legacy of a dedicated community leader who worked tirelessly to advance the lives of Jacksonville’s Black citizens during the civil rights era of the 1960s and 1970s. A passionate advocate for equality, Brown was an active member of the NAACP and served as director of the Urban League for 16 years. He also broke new ground as the first African American to serve on the Downtown Development Authority and was a valued member of the Chamber of Commerce.
Today, the park named in his honor continues to serve the community with a wide range of recreational amenities. Visitors can enjoy a community center, restrooms, and a variety of outdoor features, including a lighted youth softball field, two basketball courts, nine lighted tennis courts, playscapes, and a swimming pool.
