The Springfield Area
Experience a historic neighborhood in renaissance.
Located adjacent to Downtown Jacksonville is the historic Springfield neighborhood. An up-and-coming residential area filled with restored old homes and local charm. Majestic oaks provide protective shade along Springfield’s residential streets; this neighborhood gives visitors a window into Jacksonville’s past and the city’s effort to preserve its history.
The original Springfield development dates to 1869; at one point it was the city’s wealthiest neighborhood. Currently it is in the middle of a rebirth, in 2011, Southern Living named Springfield one of "The South's Best Comeback Neighborhoods." Walk Fido down the tree-lined streets and then let your furry-friend play freely at the Confederate Dog Park.
Every November, Springfield hosts Porch Fest, where live Music, Food and Fun Take Over the Porches of Historic Springfield.
Getting Here from Downtown: Go north on Ocean Street, turn left onto E State Street/US-1 N then take the first right onto N Main Street/US-1 and that leads to the heart of Springfield.
