Yoga and Beer
Yu-ommmmmm. We all know that Jacksonville is a hot spot for specialized craft breweries and relaxing spaces for yoga.
When the two meet, yogis can enjoy a graceful morning stretch and an ice-cold beer. Breweries provide large open spaces perfect for yoga classes with plenty of room to move. The breweries also provide a laid-back space where people of all levels can enjoy a class. The classes are welcoming to all and invite those who may have never attended a yoga class before. Don’t forget to bring your own mat, towel and water to these events!
One of JAX Ale Trail’s own, Southern Swells Brewing Co., hosts a weekly Yoga & Brews class each Sunday at 11 AM. The brewery only opens to the class, so the Yoga participants can enjoy the entire space. After the class ends, you can enjoy a delicious beer (perhaps one of their classic IPAs) from Southern Swells’ draft list. Check out all of Southern Swells’ events here.
If the beach is usually calling your name on Sunday, check out Surfer The Bar’s Rise with Big Fish Yoga(photo displayed), at 10 AM. The second-floor yoga space has great views of Jacksonville Beach, and is only a few blocks away from the Jacksonville Beach Pier. After the class is over, stick around for brunch and bottomless brews, bloody mary’s and mimosas. Surfer The Bar’s weekly events and other specials can be found here.
On the Southside of town, Urban Yoga is partnering with Veterans United Craft brewery. They’re pairing beers, yoga and good causes to support the Make-a-Wish foundation in the North Florida region. After class, try Veteran’s United Raging Blonde Ale or HopBanshee India Pale Ale. Come feel good, drink good and do good with the Veterans United crew. Be sure to be on the lookout for this unique event on their event calendar here.
Be sure to check out a newer spot in Jacksonville, Fishweir Brewing, which host Postures + Pints and showcase a different local yoga studio, including Hot Spot, Yoga Den and Soluna Yoga & Spa. The $10 class includes first drink: Fishweir’s variety of craft beer, sparkling water or kombucha can refresh any taste. The Vinyasa yoga class can be enjoyed by all levels of yogis. Fishweir’s event calendar of their events are here.
Yoga in breweries has been a growing phenomenon, combining the uptick in craft breweries and the trendy yoga classes. A great way to kick off your weekend, yoga classes and breweries are the perfect combination of mindfulness, movement and fun. These classes are a great way to meet people with similar interests and get to know a new friend over a beer.
