Cafe Resistance Bookstore and Coffee Shop is a cultural hub where you can find books by Black authors and enjoy deli-style sandwiches, wraps, smoothies, and coffee. Also known as "The Banned Bookstore," it stocks rare titles by Black authors that the Florida Department of Education has banned for grades K-12 across the state.
Angie Nixon, the owner of Cafe Resistance Bookstore and Coffee Shop, advocates against book restrictions and promotes novels and children's books that represent people of every race, religion, and culture. Here, you can read books by local and international authors, attend book signings and community events, and connect with people in a safe space where you can dream, resist, and flourish.
