Historic Mt. Ararat Church
Located in Jacksonville’s historic Durkeeville neighborhood, Mount Ararat Missionary Baptist Church is a cornerstone of the city’s Black history. Established in 1919 and rebuilt in 1958, the church is also known for hosting Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s 1961 sermon, “This is a Great Time to Be Alive,” marking its significance in both local and Civil Rights history.
