Residential LaVilla

Anchored by Jacksonville Terminal, LaVilla grew into a nationally recognized center of Black culture, music and commerce, earning its reputation as the "Harlem of the South." Once home to many of Jacksonville's most prominent Black professionals, entrepreneurs and civic leaders, LaVilla featured elegant homes that reflected the community's prosperity. The historic residences along West Monroe Street preserve the neighborhood's original scale, character and architectural heritage. Though deeply affected by urban renewal and the construction of Interstate 95, LaVilla remains a symbol of resilience and is experiencing a new era of revitalization.
