Historic Moncrief Cemetery District

Includes Pinehurst Cemetery, Sunset Cemetery and Memorial Cemetery, three historic African American burial grounds established during segregation when Black residents were excluded from many other cemeteries. Located near Moncrief Road and Edgewood Avenue, they were developed by the Memorial Cemetery Association and closely connected to the Afro American Life Insurance Company, a cornerstone of Black economic life in segregated Jacksonville.
